About
A non-political, non-profit organisation rooted in Gaibandha
BMKS was founded in 2018 by a group of local people who were already doing this work informally and decided to do it properly.
Bandhon Manab Kallyan Sangstha was formally established on 1 January 2018, under the leadership of Engr. SD Shesheir. The health work had already been running since 2014; registration simply gave a name and a structure to something that was happening anyway.
We are a voluntary social welfare and socio-economic development organisation, and we are not affiliated with any political party. That independence matters in a district where much assistance arrives with strings attached.
How we choose who to help
Beneficiaries are identified together with people who live in the area and know which households are struggling. This is slower than handing out assistance to whoever turns up, and it is the reason our distributions reach elderly and disabled people who could never reach the front of a crowd.
What we publish
We report what we raise and what we spend. Any donor who wants to see the detail behind a figure on this site can ask us for it.
Mission
To improve the socio-economic condition of underprivileged people and bring lasting positive change to how they live.
Vision
A Gaibandha where no family is held back by a lack of clean water, basic healthcare, schooling or the small amount of capital it takes to earn a living.
About
Our values
Non-political
We take no party affiliation and give no preference based on one. Assistance is decided on need alone.
Local first
Our staff and volunteers are from the communities we serve. We are accountable to our neighbours.
Open books
We publish what we raise and what we spend, and answer questions about both.
Dignity
Nobody should have to push through a crowd for food. How assistance is given matters as much as that it is given.

From the founder
“We did not start this to build an organisation. We started it because there were families around us who needed help and no one was coming. Everything since has been an attempt to do that reliably rather than occasionally.”
