Groundwater arsenic contamination affects large parts of northern Bangladesh, and Gaibandha is no exception. Families who know their water is unsafe often have no alternative source within walking distance.
We install and maintain deep tube-wells that draw from safe aquifers, and build sanitary latrines for households that have none. Both are chosen with the community and handed to them to look after, with a maintenance plan rather than a ribbon-cutting.
Why sanitation comes with water
Clean water alone does not stop waterborne disease if there is nowhere safe to relieve oneself. We treat the two as one piece of work, and pair every installation with hygiene sessions for the families using it.
